The original draft submitted by the architectural studio suffered from extreme information disparity. One spread contained forty lines of structural engineering notes, while the adjacent fold showed only three bullet points and an architectural elevation draft. Standard symmetrical columns caused the sparse panel to look unintentionally empty and disconnected from the surrounding content.
We resolved this disproportion by constructing variable-span column rules. Instead of forcing body text into matching heights, each column was assigned a persistent baseline lock that aligned subheadings and captions horizontally, regardless of how much running text sat beneath them.
- Established a six-column modular framework allowing single, double, and triple column spans across the fold.
- Grouped dense technical data into standardized secondary modules with muted tabular numerals.
- Converted passive margins into active white space zones that steer reader eye movement directly toward key pullouts.
